Mazlow's Hierachy of Needs

I feel it is very important for student's to feel equal,

respected, welcome, comfortable. I feel it important for me as a Teacher to have a good relationship with the students and know their interests.

When student's enrol in my service, my process is to show them around the school and we come back and sit on the carpet area and get introduced to our new found friends, and play a name game, where each one says "My name is _____" and so on in a circle.

I allocate an older child or someone they may already know to be their buddy for the first week till they feel confident enough to mingle on their own. I then put them into a small group where we will do an activity to settle them in. Parents and students are given a questionaire to fill in for me to give me a little bit of background information. The child's questionaire is called "ALL ABOUT ME" and it contains things such as What's my favourite food? What's my favourite sport? What am I scared of? How many people are in my family? This information then goes into their portfolios and I can design a program based on their interests. It gives me something to scaffold off.

Emotional Intelligence Test

Hi everyone, Just completed the Emotional Intelligence quiz. Don't know if I did too well but the results are below:- Test your emotional intelligence (EQ) You scored 70% correct! People who typically score in this range are usually able to recognise and understand their feelings and to express them in an appropriate manner. They are fairly comfortable with who they are. In most circumstances they are not afraid to show love, empathy and compassion for other people. In general, they are comfortable with intimacy, and giving of themselves to other people. They are pretty good communicators. They are fairly in tune with themselves and those around them. They generally know how to say the right thing at the right moment. They are good friends and partners. They are normally able to show anger in appropriate ways. More often than not, they are able to stand up for themselves when necessary, but also are not afraid to cry if they are hurt. They are able to admit when they are wrong and take steps to correct their mistakes. They are rarely unable to say they are sorry. They are generally happy, well-rounded people. However, just because people with an average EQ have a pretty good grasp on their emotions they still have plenty of room for emotional growth. They can continue to be introspective. They can continue to communicate with the people around them and continue to work on their goals. They can utilise what they have and continue to identify areas within themselves that need work. Remember that a person's emotional intelligence never stops growing. Because we are always evolving as people, EQ is something that must be nurtured. My thoughts on Engagement Theory

Hi Everyone,

After I finished reading the Engagement Theory, I did find it all very relevant and a useful article.

I have a new understanding of where I can improve and how I can impliment these changes.

As (Prensky, 2001) states, engagement theory is based upon the idea of creating successful collaborative teams that work on ambitious projects that are meaningful to someone outside the classroom. These three components are Relate-Create-Donate.

Many of us are already involved in Technology on a daily basis, I know most of our young children already know how to use a computer, most day care centres use computers to do small tasks, prep students have computer lessons. Most children own a Nintendo DS game or an Ipod Touch, or a phone.

I run an After School Care Service and we often have cooking activities, as a class discussion we ask everyone what they like and dislike and come to an agreement of what to cook for instance (Relate) We organise all the ingredients needed and cook the following day (Create) The children then eat there cooking the next day for their afternoon tea. (Donate)

We do many other tasks similar to this but this is our most successful.

When I have a class I would like to use this method. Split the class into approx 6 groups, each group choose their own topic to do an oral presentation on. (Relate) They have to collaborate with each other and choose a topic or something they all enjoy. (Create)They then begin to begin the project. As a group they can each have a role to do. Once they have work together effectively they then donate (deliver) this through oral presentations. There are many ways to utilise this method of Prensky's.

I have looked through this site and came across the Keirsey Online Quiz, I completed this and received my temperament which is GUARDIAN.

I skimmed through this reading about the Guardian Temperaments and I am glad I fall into this basket to be honest, it really does sound so much like my personality. I am loyal, have lifelong friends, I am a responsible parent, very hard working etc etc, quite eerie really.

Some of the core characteristics of the Guardian Temperaments are:-

1. Guardians pride themselves on being dependable, helpful, and hard-working.



2. Guardians make loyal mates, responsible parents, and stabilizing leaders.



3. Guardians tend to be dutiful, cautious, humble, and focused on credentials and traditions.



4. Guardians are concerned citizens who trust authority, join groups, seek security, prize gratitude, and dream of meting out justice.

In our society there is approx 40-45 % of the population that have a Guardian Temperament. I feel this percentage is quite a good reassurance, as the Guardians are a huge asset to have in our society, they are hardworking, loyal, dependable and can effectively manage a number of businesses or institutions with the skills and credentials needed.

Guardians work well in a group environment, but they do expect each team member to be doing their fair share.

Guardians are normally quite serious people but what I can gather is they are very professional and keep their private life private and their work very professional. Guardians enjoy being around their friends and often really enjoy themselves. Guardians are very caring, they genuinely do care about their peers around them.

Multiple Intelligence

I have now completed the Multiple Intelligence Quiz. These quizes are so very interesting, quite amazing really, my strengths are Kinesthmetic (Body Smart), Interpersonal (People Smart) and Linguistic (Word Smart) and my weakest area by far is Naturalistic (Nature Smart). I feel this is accurate. I would have picked these if I had to choose what I thought I was. Very clever. I have listed my top three below:-

Kinaesthetic - Body Smart You may be body smart. You will enjoy sports and are good at swimming, athletics, gymnastics and other sports. This is sometimes called being Kinaesthetic smart. Linguistic - Word Smart You may be word smart. You will enjoy reading, writing and talking about things. This is sometimes called being Linguistic smart. Intrapersonal - Myself Smart You may be myself smart. You will know about yourself and your strengths and weaknesses. You will probably keep a diary. This is sometimes called being Intrapersonal smart.

If your score on a scale is 1-3, you are fairly well balanced on the two dimensions of that scale. If your score on a scale is 5-7, you have a moderate preference for one dimension of the scale and will learn more easily in a teaching environment which favors that dimension. If your score on a scale is 9-11, you have a very strong preference for one dimension of the scale. You may have real difficulty learning in an environment which does not support that preference. As you can see I am fairly well balanced throughout except for the Sen. This is obviously what I favour, and what I need to work on to become a more balanced to learning manager.
